
Andrea P. Leers:
Andrea Leers attended Wellesley College, before continuing to graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Fine Arts, learning under renowned architect Louis I. Kahn, and traveling abroad to Japan as an NEA-Japan US Friendship Commission Fellow to be immersed in Japanese art and culture. While working as an intern, Leers met Jane Weinzapfel where they discovered they both had extreme interest in establishing a firm with “bold and refined architecture for the public realm”. She is internationally recognized in for her work with urban and campus design, as well as her expertise in the design of courthouses. Before her practice took off, she has had a long and decorated teaching career. Leers spent time as the Director of the Master in the Urban Design Program at Harvard Graduate School of Design, where she was also Adjunct Professor in Architecture and Urban Design. Before working at Harvard, she worked at Yale, University of Virginia, and her alma mater, University of Pennsylvania. Before her work at universities, Leers took time teaching abroad in Tokyo, Taiwan, and Paris. The work that she has done has earned her recognition of the Boston Society of Architects Award of Honor and on a governmental scale, she is currently the Commissioner for the Mayor’s Boston Civic Design Commission. She also serves on the US General Services Administration’s Public Buildings Service National Register of Peer Professionals.

Jane Weinzapfel:
Jane Weinzapfel was Born in Tucson Arizona, and after attending University of Arizona, Weinzapfel moved to Boston where she met Andrea Leers as an intern. After several years of working for a large architecture and planning firm, they founded their own, Leers Weinzapfel Associates. Jane specializes in campus design as well as transportation design. She is also well versed in the technology of design she has led the firm’s investigations of new materials and systems. Like Andrea Leers, Jane is also very connected with education. She has been a visiting faculty member at MIT’s School of Architecture and Planning and at the Arizona College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture. She often gives lectures on design juries throughout the US, Italy and the Middle East. She too has been recognized by the Boston Society of Architects Award of Honor.
