Landscape architect Jacob Weidenmann (1829-1893) who created Bushnell Park also designed the 270 acre Cedar Hill Cemetery in 1864. Home to Northam Memorial Chapel, which showcases a hydraulic lift in front of the altar to make moving caskets easy. In an American tradition evoking rural village cemeteries, Cedar Hill can be compared to Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Its first sections became available in 1866, and now is the final resting place of 32,000 people, including Samuel Colt, Katharine Hepburn, and John Pierpont Morgan.
