Created by artist Evelyn Beatrice Longman, The Craftsman was finished in 1931 and dedicated at the A. I. Prince Technical High School. It was created to be a celebration of the average working man living in Connecticut. The Craftsman stands out as one of the few of its kind of sculptures in the area. The majority of public sculptures either honor soldiers past and present or they honor the great thinkers who had a connection to the state. Longman’s statue is different because it highlights the common man who manufactured en masse the inventions of the pioneers of technology.
